Defining Location

Location settings specify how things that have this thing definition respond to location information.

Location information published for a thing can have a fix type (a source) that indicates how the location information is acquired.

The values entered in the Fix types to ignore box specify the location fix types to ignore when the thing sends location information. This may be useful when the location is set manually and you want Device Cloud to ignore specific fix types because the values from these sources will be different from the one set manually. When a thing sends location information with any of the specified fix types, the location of the thing is not updated in Device Cloud.

The following table lists typical fix types. This is not an exhaustive list.

You can define location information when you add a new thing definition or when you edit an existing thing definition.

  1. On the Developer page, click Thing definitions.
  2. On the Thing Definitions page, click the Edit icon of the thing definition you want to modify.
  3. On the thing definition editing page, select the Standard tab, and then select the Locations tab.
  4. (Optional) Type or select the fix type.

By default, there are no fix types defined. If none appear, type a value in the box.
