Exporting and Importing a Thing Definition

You can add thing definitions to an organization by exporting and importing definitions from and to an existing organization, with all its attributes, alarms, properties, methods, presentation information, and other characteristics.

Exporting a Thing Definition

  1. Click Developer and then on the Developer page, click Thing definitions to display the page.

  2. Click Export to export the things_defs.json file for selected definitions.

  3. Save the file to your system and make modifications, if required, and export definitions from or to an existing organization. To switch organizations, see Logging in to the Device through the Device Console.

Importing a Thing Definition

  1. Click Developer and then on the Developer page, click Thing definitions

  2. Click Import on the Thing definitions page.

  3. The Thing definitions import page appears. Click Attach File and navigate to the file location.

  4. Click Import to import an existing or modified definition from your file system to an existing organization.
