Adding a New Thing Definition

A thing definition defines the attributes, alarms, properties, methods, presentation information, and other characteristics of a type of item that is managed through Device Cloud.

1. Click Developer and then on the Developer page, click Thing definitions.
2. On the Thing definitions page, click New thing definition.
3. On the Adding Thing Definition page, fill in the fields with the appropriate values.

   Field	Description
   Key (mandatory)	An identifier for the thing definition that is globally unique within the organization. For more information about key formats and limitations, see Field Formats and Limitations.
   Name (mandatory)	The name of the thing definition that is displayed on Management Portal pages.
   Auto def attributes	Allows things that use this thing definition to automatically define attributes that are not defined in the thing definition.
   Auto def properties	Allows things that use this thing definition to automatically define properties that are not defined in the thing definition.

4. When you finish, click Add.
