Defining the Presentation of Properties

You can customize the presentation of the graphs for each property displayed on a thing page.

The Presentation tab is visible only after adding a new thing definition.  After you create a thing definition, edit the definition to change the presentation properties. 

The order of precedence for properties is as follows:

  1. Auto-defined using the input range

  2. Presentation Tab

  3. Properties Tab

Any individual property values defined in the Properties tab take higher precedence and overrides all other values.

  1. On the Developer page, click Thing definitions.
  2. On the Thing Definitions page, click the Edit icon of the thing definition you want to modify.
  3. On the thing definition editing page, select the Standard tab, and then select the Presentation tab.

  4. Type or select the values for the presentation characteristics.

    Field

    Description

    Graph option

    Controls the size of the graphs displayed on the thing details page. The options are as follows:

    • Small graphs

    • Large graphs

    Graph type

    Controls how the data is represented on the graph.

    The options are as follows:

    • Line

    • Spline

    • Step

    • Area

    • Area-spline

    • Area-step (default)

    • Bar

    • Points

    View option

    Controls the position of the tabs on the thing details page. The options are as follows:

    • Top tab display - the tabs are displayed across the top of the thing's page.

    • Left tab display - the tabs are displayed on the left hand side of the thing's page.

    • Single page display - the data for the thing is displayed on a single page, without using tabs and separate pages.

    Show and hide unset attributes

    Controls if the unset attributes are shown on the thing details page Attributes tab.

    The options are as follows:

    • Show

    • Hide

    Show and hide unset alarms

    Controls if the unset alarms are shown in the Alarms section on the thing details page.

    The options are as follows:

    • Show

    • Hide

    Show and hide unset properties

    Controls if the unset property graphs are shown in the Properties section on the thing details page .

    The options are as follows:

    • Show

    • Hide

    Series

    Controls the aggregation of the property values. The options are as follows:

    • Hour - the property values are displayed by the hour, based on the Calculation field.

    • Day - the property values are displayed by the day, based on the Calculation field.

    • History - all values for the property are displayed.

    Calculation

    Displayed when the Series field is Hour or Day. Controls the aggregation of the property values. The options are as follows:

    • Average

    • Count

    • Max

    • Min

    • Non-zero time weighted average

    • Sum

    • Weighted average

    Period

    The value used based on the Period unit field.

    Period unit

    The options are as follows:

    • seconds

    • minutes

    • hours

    • days

    • records

    Minimum and Maximum

    The minimum and maximum values you want to show for properties.

    For example, the example below shows the graph for the property values set to the minimum value of two and the maximum value of 30.
