Usage Caveats

Separate Installation of a Telnet Server Required to Use the Device Console

To access a remote terminal session on your device through the Device Console link on the LaunchPad, you need to install a Telnet server on the device using the appropriate installation procedure for your operating system. Ensure that you bind the server to localhost only.

Separate Installation of the Client and Server Applications Required to Use Remote Access

To connect to a device through a secure tunnel created through the Remote Access link on the LaunchPad, you must install the required client application on your system and the required server application on the device.

The Python Agent for Windows and the C Agent for Linux Do Not Support Port 443

When you generate the connection configuration file for your applications and the device manager application, ensure that you specify one of the other supported ports.

Sub-organizations Do Not Automatically Inherit Elements from the Parent Organization

If you create a sub-organization, elements such as thing definitions, applications, triggers, and roles are not propagated at creation time to the sub-organization from the parent. For each type of element, you can export the items from the parent and import them into the sub-organization.

To create the default definitions for the Device Cloud device manager and sample applications, you can run the setup-cloud-deps.py script included with both the C and Python agent source code.

Switching Organizations on the LaunchPad Does Not Change the Organization Selected on the Management Portal

When you access the Management Portal, if you do not want to use your default organization, you must select the organization you want to use for activities performed in the Management Portal. This selection does not affect the organization selected on the LaunchPad.
